It’s one week to Graduation Day and the final year students have been getting ready for the big occasion. This week some tailors from Mekele were at the college delivering new suits for the graduating students. A new suit here costs 850 birr (about 31 pounds) which sounds relatively cheap but is more than a month’s wages for a newly qualified teacher, who would normally get around 750 birr (about 27 pounds) a month. So a new suit is a very big deal. Here are the students trying on their new suits at the tailors temporary shop under a tree outside the college gates. They must feel very proud!
