The college has over 1200 students on its roll and over 100 staff working or living on the campus. Therefore, there is a large potential customer-base for shops, restaurants and cafes surrounding the college to take advantage of. However, the enterprising spirit hasn’t reached this end of town quite just yet. This is the nearest shop, nearly a kilometre away, which does seem to be trying to attract new customers with some signage most uncharacteristic for Ethiopia. Uncharacteristic because it is rare to see a sign written in English and most of the shops sell exactly the same things, at the same price and all of the same quality. Also it is very rare to have signs on shops and you have to either go in or peer through the doorway to see what each one is selling…
