The only train line in Ethiopia

When we were in Addis Ababa I took these pictures near to where we were based. There is only one train line in Ethiopia – which goes from the capital to the neighbouring country Djibouti, which is a port and is a useful link for landlocked Ethiopia. Unfortuntaly, as you can see, the railway is not really functioning right now, at least on this part of the line. In the last picture you can see quite a large market camped on the railway. However, the line does currently run from Dire Dawa to Djibouti only. It seems plans are underway to repair and reopen the whole line (and maybe even build some more). The line also has quite an interesting history and you can read more about it here.
